Dr. Osher Voted Kent State University's June Scholar of the Month

Scholar makes contributions to Podiatric Medical Education

An accomplished doctor and academic, a highly regarded colleague and educator, the June 2016 Scholar of the Month is Dr. Lawrence Osher, of our very own Kent State University College of Podiatric Medicine. This decision has been made unanimously among Kent State University leadership.

Dr. Osher is a Professor in the Division of Podiatric and General Medicine at the College of Podiatric Medicine (KSUCPM). Osher completed his undergraduate education with a Bachelor of Science from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan, before earning his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (D.P.M.) from the former Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine, now KSUCPM.

Dr. Osher has acted as the scientific co-chair for several continuing medical education conferences, including the 2016 Southeast National Conference, and the 2016 Southern Exposure Seminar.

He is also the Director of the Radiology Department at the Cleveland Foot and Ankle Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio, and the Chairman of the Ohio Radiation Generating Equipment Committee. These are fitting placements, as Osher is well known for his project studying fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG)- positron emission tomography (PET) scanning versus fluorine labeled white blood cells in PET scanning of infected versus non-infected diabetic charcot arthropathy. The project was started alongside D. Scot Malay, D.P.M., as a part of a multicenter study.

Dr. Osher has also received the 2003 Bronze William J. Stickel Research Award for his research publication with the Journal of Podiatric Medical Association and has authored more than 25 journal publications and book chapters. He is not only esteemed by his colleagues in the field of Podiatric Medicine, but is well-regarded among the Kent State community at large.

Dr. Osher was selected to the 2012-2013 Strategic Planning Committee for Academic Excellence and Innovation, as one of the 32 members from more than 170 university-wide nominations, and is the only nominee from KSUCPM. He has also been chairman of the college's Faculty Senate since 2009.

Students favor him as well! In 2011, Dr. Osher was voted Favorite Clinical Science Faculty Professor. He also received the 2009 Ohio Magazine "Outstanding Educator Award".

Congratulations on all of your past and future accomplishments, Dr. Osher! We are proud to have you on the KSUCPM team!
