University Band to Present Spring Concert

The Kent State University at Tuscarawas University Band will present a concert at 7 p.m. on May 3 in the Performing Arts Center. Theatre doors will open at 6:30 p.m. The concert is open to the public free of charge. With a theme of "A Suite Celebration," the performance will include a variety of marches, chorales, cinematic works, dance suites and a ballet transcription.

Directed by James Graves, the University Band is a wind ensemble composed of Kent State Tuscarawas students, community musicians and talented high school students. 

Graves, of Dover, is an adjunct professor of music at Kent State Tuscarawas. He also is an elementary music teacher and middle school choir director for Dover City Schools. Graves received a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from Grove City College in 2013 and a Master of Arts in Educational Administration from the University of Mount Union in 2016. He is a member of the Dominic Greco Band and Tuscarawas Philharmonic Orchestra.

While University Band is a new one-credit-hour course for students, participation is also open to community members. The band rehearses on Thursday's from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center. For more information regarding joining the band, contact Graves at jgrave16@kent.edu.
