Frequently Asked Questions
What is the minimum age to participate?
A child must be 3 years old to ride in a canoe with two adults, 11 years old to paddle their own kayak with an adult on the same trip and 8 years old to float in an inner tube with an adult present.
How much weight can your boats hold?
Our kayaks are rated to 300 pounds. Our canoes can hold 1,150 pounds.
How long are your trips?
It depends on the river speed (flow) and the pace of the paddler but we allow:
Middlebury Bridge is 2 miles and takes 45 minutes – 1 hour
Brust Park is 4.5 miles and takes 1 ½ - 2 hours
Waterworks park is 6.5 miles and takes 2 ½ - 3 hours
Which is easier to paddle, a canoe or a kayak?
It depends on the paddlers, but in general kayaks are easier to control and maneuver.
Do I have to wear a lifejacket?
Yes, you must wear it at all times while on the water.
Can I bring my dog?
It depends. Friendly dogs are welcome. We ask that you pick up after your dog and that you are familiar with your dog on and near water. This isn’t the time to try out something new. We ask that you set your own shuttle and leave a vehicle at the takeout as we don't allow dogs on our shuttle. Call us at 330-541-7467 if you have any further questions.
How do we know where to get out?
CRA staff will show you a picture of your takeout before each trip. Staff should be near the takeout waiting for you before you arrive, and our phone number is included on the map in your boat if you feel lost or concerned at any point.
How many people can be in a boat?
Single kayaks only hold one person, and tandem kayaks hold two. Children cannot sit in your lap. Canoes can hold two adults and up to two small kids.
Can I bring food or drinks?
Yes, but we ask that you not bring glass. Also note that there is not time built into the trips for you to stop along the way for a picnic, but we are happy to bring your food to you on the bus when we pick you up. There is some down time while staff load boats at the end and we sell snacks and drinks at our main trailer. Alcohol is not allowed on the river.
Should I bring a phone?
Yes. At least one person in every party should bring a phone and leave it on so we can get a hold of you in case of bad weather or an emergency. We provide dry cases for phones so be sure to ask our staff for one. Larger devices such as the iPhone 6 Plus do not fit.
Do we still go if it is raining?
Our trips run rain or shine. We will call and cancel trips if there is severe weather, heavy winds or torrential rain in the forecast.
What should I wear?
Paddling is a wet sport. You may stay completely dry, but prepare to get wet. Quick-drying, synthetic clothes are best. Shoes that are secure or sandals with a heel strap are recommended. We discourage flip flops as they can come off easily in the water.
What about groups larger than 13?
If your group is larger than 13 individuals call 330-672-2802 to speak with a supervisor about custom trips and pricing. Group discounts available.
Do I have to make a reservation?
Reservations are not required, but in our busy season it is highly recommended. Walk-ups can join any trip time if there is room. Inner tubes are walk-up only.
How do I book and pay for my trip?
Since you are on our page you can click the 'book now' button to reserve and pay for your trip. We require payment at the time of booking. We have waivers on site, but you can also print out and sign waivers ahead of time on our website as well.
