You can dig a hole to China. However, it’s more practical and affordable to visit China as a student in Kent State University at Trumbull’s Study Abroad program. This week, three students are traveling nearly 7,100 miles to the Sichuan University Summer Immersion Program, located in Chengdu, China.
Junior, Alex Hatfield, is one of those students. He was excited to learn about the opportunity and was appreciative that faculty and staff encouraged him and other students to take advantage.
“This is a great experience and something I will always remember,” Hatfield said. “This is just another reason I’m thankful we have a school like Kent State in our community.”
While Hatfield and students, Erin White and Thomas Carmen, have worked hard to earn this opportunity to go to China, the trip would not be possible without scholarship support that has been provided by Kent State University at Trumbull, Kent State University College of Communication and Information and individual donations. Stephanie Smith, Assistant Professor at Kent State University and member of the Community Advisory Board of Kent State University at Trumbull sponsored one Trumbull campus student for the trip.
“My parents, Arnold and Dorothy Danes were Trumbull County residents who believed all Americans should be strong globalists,” said Smith. “They taught me that we should be understanding, caring about, and helping others whose lives, experiences and opportunities are vastly different than our own.”
In June, Kent State Trumbull students studied theatre Prague, the capital city of the Czech Republic.
