International Education Week

International Education Week is an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. This joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education is part of our efforts to promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and exchange experiences.

Join us in this scholarship workshop and learn where to find scholarship opportunities, how to articulate your financial need, and how to write a personal statement that defines your “why.” Education-Abroad alumni will also share unique fundraising ideas and tips to help in your search! *RSVP REQUIRED; Spots limited to the first 15 people who register! Discover China: The Secrets of the Terracotta Army

Wednesday, Nov. 20 | 6-7 PM  | Room 201 Bowman Hall

Discover China through learning more about the Terracotta soldiers with Dr. Hye-shim Yi of Art History and Dr. Linda Spurlock of Anthropology. Located in Xi'an, China, each of the 8,099 terracotta soldiers and horses was intricately and uniquely designed and has become a UNESCO World Heritage Site attracting visitors from around the world.

Gobble, Gobble, Global

Are you interested in learning how other cultures and communities give thanks and show gratitude? Come “give thanks for global education” and try tasty food, participate in gracious activities, and spin the prize wheel for a chance to win a scholarship!

Ciao Destination Florence participants! Are you feeling nervous about cooking on your own while you are in Florence, Italy? Not to worry--we have you covered! Join Dining Services Chef Matt at Rosie’s Diner and Market and learn how to make traditional Italian desserts! You will love it so much, you will be begging for the recipe to take with you on your semester abroad (and do not worry--we will give it to you at the end of the event)! This event is open only to Destination Florence participants. RSVP required; spots limited.

Kosher Soul with Michael W. Twitty

Tuesday, Sept. 24 | 7-9 PM | Student Center Ballroom 

Come join us for an evening of storytelling, food tasting and KOSHER SOUL with culinary historian and Jewish educator, Michael W. Twitty. Twitty, who is the James Beard award-winning author of The Cooking Gene and an internationally recognized chef, will discuss the centrality of food in celebrating our culture, and understanding our history and ourselves. Books will be available for purchase and signing after the program. The event is FREE and open to the public.


Education Abroad Parent Information Night - General Program Information! 

Wednesday, Sept. 25 | 6-7:30 PM | Room 137 Bowman Hall 

Parents and family members are among the best support systems around! Just like you, they have questions about your experience abroad too. Invite them to join you at this after-hours information night and have all their questions answered. Hear from staff members from the College of Arts and Sciences, Office of Global Education, Student Financial Aid and Education-abroad student alumni who all work together to provide the best opportunities for our aspiring students. Light refreshments provided.

Fall in LOVE with International Education Week

It is time to FALL in Love with International Education! Join us for a week of specially themed activities and events all centered on FALLing in Love with International Education! 

 

Evolution of Empires with Professors Guiseppe Mazzotta, Ph.D., Sterling Professor of the Humanities in Italian, Yale University & Fabrizio Ricciardelli, Ph.D., Director of Kent State University Florence 

Monday, Oct. 14- Friday, Oct. 18  | 8-9:30 AM | 

This 3 credit, five-week, flex semester course will examine a variety of topics in the history of the Italian peninsula from the Roman Empire through the Renaissance. This course is open to all students of any major interested in Florentine history, philosophy, politics and art. This course will include one week of in-person optional lectures, with four weeks of online learning. The in-person lectures are a part of Fall in Love with International Education Week and are open to all!

Kent State Florence is a beautiful facility nestled in the heart of downtown Florence at Palazzo Vettori. Meet the director of the Florence program and hear firsthand about the facility, program offerings, educational opportunities and cultural activities that are available to students.

This session is open to any student and/or parent/family member/guest who is interested in learning more about our Florence Semester and Summer programs. 

Representatives from the College of Arts and Sciences, the Office of Global Education and Student Financial Aid will also be present to answer additional questions/comments.
