Green Dot Now Being Offered for Faculty and Staff

Imagine a map of Kent State University where the dots across the map represent everyone in the community actively promoting a safe and respectful community. Now, imagine that map covered in green dots.

Green Dot is a movement dedicated to reducing power-based personal violence by encouraging people to become active bystanders who are willing to intervene during potential acts of violence. By getting involved with Green Dot, you are supplying yourself with the knowledge and skills to recognize and prevent power-based personal violence.

Because Green Dot is reliant upon the power of cultural and social influence, the movement seeks staff and faculty to do their part in making Kent State a safer campus. By getting involved with Green Dot, you are setting an example with your students to recognize and prevent power-based personal violence.

Without action, there is no change! So get educated, get equipped and act by becoming a part of the solution and getting involved with Green Dot.

Faculty and staff can now earn Beyond Compliance credit for participating in Green Dot! We have an hourlong overview (BC 1 hour) and the three-hour skills workshop (BC 3 hours). Be sure to visit the Beyond Compliance registration site and sign up before spots fill up! The first Green Dot overview is on Sept. 19 from 11 a.m.-noon.

Here are other ways you can get involved with Green Dot this semester:

  • Schedule a Green Dot Hour overview for your class.
  • Host a Faculty/Staff Green Dot talk for your department.
  • Offer extra credit to your students who complete the Green Dot bystander workshop.
  • Participate in Green Dot week (Sept. 25-29); #KSUGreenDotWeek2018) and wear green on Tuesday, Sept. 25.
