About the ESDRI Symposium

Now in its sixth year, the ESDRI symposium is co-organized by Kent State’s Division of Research and Sponsored Programs and the University’s Environmental Science and Design Research Initiative. The summit will foster productive dialogue between disciplinary fields of science and design through keynote speakers, moderated sessions, poster presentations and panel discussions. The forum will discuss issues regarding the interacting effects of pollution and examine best and emerging practices.

Symposium Highlights
The two-day event will commence with a keynote address on the evening of March 20th by Elizabeth Boyer, Associate Professor of Water Resources and Director of the Pennsylvania Water Resources Research Center.  The second day of the conference will highlight new approaches to a variety of environmental and social issues through presentations by distinguished speakers, and formal and informal discussions. A plenary session will set the stage for breakout sessions and posters in the afternoon. We welcome poster submissions related to this year’s theme, as well as other topics in environmental science and design. The event also will include booths hosted by environmental groups and local firms in related industries, to facilitate information sharing and recruitment opportunities for employers and students.

This annual event attracts more than 300 attendees from various universities, federal, state and regional agencies, and private companies throughout Northeastern Ohio and the surrounding states.
