University Presidents Come Together to Push Student Prosperity

Earning a bachelor’s degree will benefit more than your career path. That is the message from five Ohio university presidents: Beverly Warren, the president of Kent State University; Ronald M. Berkman, the president of Cleveland State University; Jay A. Gershen, the president of the Northeast Ohio Medical University; James P. Tressel, the president of Youngstown State University; and Matthew J. Wilson, the president of the University of Akron.

The presidents came together to share statistics and encouragement in an op-ed column. They stated the increased earning potential of degree holders and what their universities are doing to increase bachelor’s degree completion, while reducing student debt.

The presidents also stressed the need to promote higher education degrees, as well as the concern that too many working-age adults in Ohio will not have the necessary degree to meet workforce demands by 2025.
