Overview

With the juxtaposition of ancient history and modern metropolis, Cairo, Egypt, is a dynamic city, rich with culture. For an academic year, semester, or summer term, Kent State students have the opportunity to complete unique courses at The American University in Cairo, including Hieroglyphics, Islamic Law, Cinema in Egypt and the Arab World, Languages of the World, Migration and Refugee Movements in the Middle East and North Africa, and Contemporary Security Issues in the Middle East, among many others. Courses are taught in English, but students are able to learn Arabic if they so choose. Explore the Pyramids of Giza, the Mosque of Ibn Tulun, the Valley of the Kings, or Mount Sinai in your free time, as public transit and trains are readily available throughout Egypt.

 

 

 


Location

Situated on 260 acres in New Cairo, the AUC campus features many state-of-the-art facilities for research, teaching, learning, and entertainment.

Courses are taught fully in English in a variety of subject areas, including the following:

Students may also participate in a Survival Arabic course, designed to help incoming international students with little or no previous knowledge of the Arabic language to transition to life in Cairo. To maintain full-time status, undergraduate students must enroll in 12-15 credit hours while abroad and graduate students must enroll in 9 credit hours while abroad. If students enroll in additional credit hours at AUC outside of those limits, they will be assessed an additional per credit hour fee by AUC.


Living in Cairo

Students will live in fully-furnished, on-campus residence halls at The American University in Cairo and may select a single room, double room, or studio apartment configuration. Residence halls also feature 24/7 access to a service point and receptionist, community lounge, kitchenette, computer labs, study spaces, and emergency medical services. Students will also find high speed WiFi, central air conditioning and heating, complimentary self-service laundry, and complimentary room cleaning kits. Bed linens are also provided. Residence halls at AUC are conveniently located within walking distance of many food outlets/supermarkets, academic buildings, sports facilities, and campus shuttle bus stops. 

Meals plans are not offered at AUC, but students will find a variety of cafeterias, food courts, coffee shops, bakeries, and vending machines to suit every palate. 

With 60+ student organizations and 21 men's and women's athletic teams, there are many opportunities to become involved on campus!
