Courses and Internships

Academic courses are provided by our accredited partner institution, Anglo-American University. Courses are all taught in English and offered in, but not limited to, these academic areas:

• Business Administration
• Humanities & Social Sciences
• International Relations/Political Science
• Journalism & Communications
• Visual Art Studies [Art Studio, Art History, Art Theory]
• Internship Course/Placement

Courses tend to not vary significantly from one term to the same term the following year. Therefore, reviewing the timetable will serve as a good guide for determining what may be offered in future Fall and Spring terms. Please use these course lists as a guide when you speak with your Academic Advisor about whether this program and its available courses may fit your degree path and graduation plan.

Courses are subject to change, and each term new courses may be added or substituted. Students are required to enroll in and maintain full-time enrollment during the Fall/Spring semesters [Undergraduate: minimum 12.0 semester credit hours; Graduate: minimum 9.0 semester credit hours]. Registration for classes will take place prior to departure. It is essential to consult with an academic advisor regarding course selection, and as with any university course offerings, there is a possibility of course cancelation due to low enrollment or other curriculum changes.

INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

Considering an internship abroad? For some students, an internship is the ultimate way to explore a career. For others, an internship is a great way to gain relevant experience that will make them a stronger candidate for employment after graduation. All in all, it is a significant connection between academic studies and work experience, and will greatly booster your resume and future professional career!

• INTERNSHIP ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
  • 3.0 cumulative GPA (students with lower GPAs may be considered if supplemental documents are provided -i.e. letter of recommendation)
  • Have earned a minimum of 45.0 credit hours before beginning the study abroad program in Prague
  • Enroll in the required AAU internship course

Students interested in participating in an internship will work with both the Kent State's Office of Global Education and the Anglo-American University Career Center. Students are encouraged to strengthen their resume and cover letter-writing skills in preparation for applying for the internship. Internship placements are competitive and therefore not guaranteed.

All internships are unpaid due to Czech immigration policy, but the internship course/placement is credit-bearing (3.0 credits). Interns must complete 135 hours at their host company/site -this can be completed during the Fall/Spring semester as well as over the summer term and usually requires a minimum of 6-8 weeks if done over the summer. There is not a finite, set list of possible internships. Each applicant is reviewed and a tailored internship is sought for each eligible student. Given the nature of the internship sites and the work of the companies/organizations, some majors are more feasible to achieve internships for than others. Students interested in applying for an internship must submit an updated resume and cover letter via email to the program coordinator, Sara Morato (smoratoq@kent.edu), according to the following deadlines:

• FALL SEMESTER INTERNSHIP: March 15th*
• SPRING SEMESTER INTERNSHIP: September 15th*
• SUMMER TERM INTERNSHIP: February 15th*
