Overview

Experience living in the Arctic Circle! The University of Lapland is a relatively new university, founded in 1979. The university focuses on social science, education, art, and law. A highlight of the university is its center, dedicated to arctic research. The University of Lapland has around 4400 students and 600 members of staff. Location

The city of Rovaniemi, where University of Lapland is located, is in the Arctic Circle, 66°33′45.9″ degrees north. Due to the university’s location, you can experience the midnight sun in the summer as well as the polar night during winter. University of Lapland is the European Union’s northernmost science and art university. Located in northern Finland, Rovaniemi is a popular tourist destination due to its many natural wonders, including the Aurora Borealis. Additionally, Rovaniemi is the official hometown of Santa Claus.

Living in Rovaniemi

Students arrange housing through a student housing organization called Domus Arctica (DAS). Students stay in apartments that are located near the university or city center. Apartments are typically shared with 2-3 other people. The monthly rents vary depending on the size, condition, and level of the furnishings of the room.
