Mary Ann Stephens and John R. Graham Award

The Mary Ann Stephens and John R. Graham Award for Excellence in Graduate Research and Scholarship is presented annually to a doctoral student underrepresented in their discipline. Normally, one award is made each year and is based on the merit of the applicant's contribution to research and scholarship.

Criteria:

  • Must be a currently enrolled full-time doctoral student.
  • U.S. citizen (or national) or a permanent resident of the U.S.
  • From a group that is considered underrepresented (e.g., women in traditionally male-dominated disciplines, individuals with disabilities, and ethnic/racial minorities).
  • Preference given to graduate students pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy degree from STEM disciplines (as defined by the National Science Foundation).

Award:

Recipients receive a $500 monetary award.

Application and Selection Processes:

Submit electronic application by February 15 for consideration for the following year. The completed application should include a scholarship statement, a curriculum vitae (CV) or resume, and a letter of recommendation from a dissertation advisor detailing accomplishments in research and scholarship in the discipline. All materials must be received by the deadline.

Applications are reviewed by a committee comprised of faculty representing various ranks and disciplines. The recipient is selected by the Dean of the Graduate College.
