Student Spotlight: Hossein Mirzajani Shahrestani

Hossein Mirzajani Shahrestani is a master’s student in the  Healthcare Design Program in the College of Architecture and Environmental Design. Hossein is energized by learning and strives to grow, teach and master new skills. His research interests include the perceived importance of wellness features to improve end-user experience in cancer care centers. Specifically, he wishes to identify the significance of designing a holistic cancer care facility by integrating wellness features to improve the quality of care-delivery.

One of Hossein's main career goals is to bring a fresh appoach to every design solution due to his diverse background in architecture and healthcare design. Hossein wants to apply evidence-based-design into healthcare architecture to create innovative solutions for some of healthcare's most complex issues. 

Currently, Hossein is working on a $2.4 million research project design of level 1 trauma rooms, in collaboration with the Cleveland Clinic. Hossein was also selected for the 2022 PDC Summit in New Orleans and selected for the 2021 AJA/Sterils Student Design Charrette Cleveland Chapter. Additionally, he has been a member of the Dean’s Advisory Board at Kent State University and he was awarded the Master of Healthcare Design Excellence Award, as well as the Dean’s Scholarship in August 2020.
