ProctorU Breach Information

Kent State University was recently notified of a security breach at one of our vendors, ProctorU. Because the privacy of our students, faculty, staff and alumni is very important to us, we felt it necessary to make you aware of this issue, even though it is not Kent State’s breach.

ProctorU is an online proctoring service that allows students to take exams online while ensuring the integrity of the exam for the institution. This information may include username and passwords. ProctorU’s statement on the breach can be found at www.proctoru.com/security-update.

If you have received an email or feel that your account has been compromised, please change your password by Monday, Aug. 17, at 8 a.m. EDT.

You can update your password by logging in to FlashLine at https://flashline.kent.edu.

  • Click Settings.
  • Click the link that says Update Password.
  • Complete all fields on the account setup page and click submit.

If you are having trouble resetting your password or you are unable to log in to your account starting Monday, Aug. 17, at 8 a.m. EDT, please use the “Forgot your password” option located on the FlashLine login page. If you are still unable to log in, please contact the HelpDesk at 330-672-HELP(4357).

If the password you used for ProctorU is being used for any other website (banking, email, etc.), you will also want to change that password on those sites.

We urge you to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activity or suspected identity theft to the proper authorities.

To minimize the damage from any data breach, you should set strong passwords, never reuse passwords for different websites and enable multi-factor authentication (MFA) wherever it is possible. With an overabundance of caution, we also suggest you monitor national credit reporting agencies and report to them if you have concerns about suspicious activities.

For your convenience, the contact information for these credit agencies is below:
