Flashes Make a Difference on Alumni Day of Service 2017

Since the first Alumni Day of Service in 2009, Kent State University alumni and friends have united to help build homes, clean rivers and beaches, prepare meals for families, clean hospice centers, churches, shelters and historical societies, and so much more.

The 2017 Kent State Alumni Day of Service, held April 29, was our biggest yet, with close to 400 volunteers serving at 27 locations around the world. Our alumni and friends came together and sorted more than 20,000 pounds of food to feed those in need, landscaped and cleaned property grounds at a shelter, sorted books for kids, transformed the grounds at the Akron Zoo, and so much more.

Among others, site locations included Akron, Cleveland, San Francisco and Pittsburgh, and for the first time ever our day of service was global, as we had service sites in Jordan as well.

This year we asked our volunteers to send us a documentary-style video from their locations, and we used those to create a compilation video highlighting their collective, impactful efforts.
