On Nov. 1, 2018, Kent State University launched its 2018 Giving Tuesday campaign. Like last year, the university is taking it one step further, making Giving Tuesday a month-long event, providing people with an expanded timeframe to be able to give, additional giving options and offering more occasions to have their gifts matched.
“During our 2017 Giving Tuesday efforts throughout the month of November, we received more than 3,000 gifts totaling over $1 million in support of more than 330 designations,” said Danielle Hupp, senior associate director of Special Giving Initiatives at Kent State. “The generosity shown by our supporters profoundly impacted countless students’ lives, and the university as a whole. We hope to see the 2018 campaign generate even greater resources for our students and university community.”
“Giving Tuesday” has been firmly established nationally as the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving, and is included in the same list as Black Friday, Shop Local Saturday and Cyber Monday. Today, Giving Tuesday is widely accepted to be the official start of the season of giving. Kent State has participated since 2014.
This year, there are again many ways to give. More than 40 funds are being featured and each has matching dollars in place to double the impact of gifts made to support these funds, which range from athletics to study away scholarships to student emergency funds and more.
We are thrilled to announce a new and exciting component for the week of Nov. 12 – Nov. 19. A generous donor has offered two, $2,500 prizes; one will be awarded to the featured fund that raises the most dollars that week, and the second will be awarded to the featured fund that receives the most unique donors that week.
Additionally, the Kent State University Foundation has pledged to contribute a “boost” of $500 for every 15 unique donors of $25 or more that give to a featured fund between Nov. 1 and Nov. 26. Additional incentives will be announced throughout the campaign.
You can also get involved by creating your own Giving Campaign for Kent State! The crowdfunding option allows more people to get involved by creating their own mini campaigns to support any Giving Tuesday featured fund by reaching out to their own network.
