Preparing Ohio's Future Workforce

Kent State University is committed to preparing students for the jobs of today and tomorrow, providing them with problem-solving skills and hands-on experiences that empower them to contribute meaningfully to local communities and businesses. As a leader in higher education, Kent State graduates are making an impact from their own neighborhoods, throughout the state of Ohio and beyond.

Each year, Kent State graduates approximately 9,000 career-ready students—the most in Northern Ohio. These graduates are equipped to take on Ohio’s most in-demand jobs, supporting local businesses and advancing critical industries. With 84 percent of graduates immediately employed or continuing their education, Kent State’s impact on the Ohio economy is significant. Of note, the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program is offered at nearly every Kent State campus in Ohio. The BSN program is the largest and most successful collective nursing program in the state and 85 percent of nursing graduates stay in Ohio, where they impact the health of every community they serve.

More than 63 percent of our graduates choose to stay in Ohio, contributing their skills and knowledge to help grow the state’s workforce and economic development in all its 88 counties. In fact, Kent State alumni contribute $3.4 billion annually to Ohio’s economy. This reflects the university’s success in graduating individuals who are prepared, engaged and committed to a life of impact. The total economic impact of Kent State University, its employees and alumni in Ohio is $4.9 billion. When more students earn a degree in higher education, their families and communities have the opportunity to thrive.

Kent State’s global footprint is also remarkable, with nearly 280,000 alumni living and working in 148 countries. Despite this wide reach, many of our students remain grounded in Ohio, using their talents to address local challenges.

In 2024 alone, nearly 9,000 students graduated from Kent State, with 36 percent of those on the Kent Campus graduating without student debt—a testament to the university's commitment to affordability and accessibility. Donor support provides millions of dollars annually in scholarships and more private philanthropy is needed to increase the number of students graduating with little to no debt.

Kent State University remains a powerful force in shaping Ohio’s future by investing in students who are ready to lead, innovate and contribute to the communities and industries that drive our state and nation's economy forward.
