Award-Winning Instructors
Kent State University annually recognizes outstanding achievement in classroom teaching by offering awards to faculty. Six faculty from the Department of Physics have been recipients of these teaching awards.
In April 2009, Physics Professor Dr. Jon Secaur earned a 2008 Outstanding Teaching Award. Dr. Secaur was also honored in March 2007 as the Portage County (Ohio) Teacher of the Year.
Distinguished Teaching Award
The Distinguished Teaching Awards (DTA), Kent's most prestigious honors for full-time faculty, are presented annually to three Kent State University faculty members who consistently exhibit extraordinary skills in classroom teaching. Former winners are no longer eligible. These awards are sponsored by the Kent Alumni Association.
A&S Distinguished Teaching Award
The A&S Distinguished Teaching Awards (A&S-DTA) are chosen by the Student Advisory Council, an organization made up of all the departments in the College of Arts and Sciences. Teachers are chosen as a result of a call for nominations that go out to the entire student campus population.
Outstanding Teaching Award
The Outstanding Teaching Awards (OTA), Kent's most prestigious honors for non-tenure-track faculty, are presented annually to three Kent State University term faculty members who consistently exhibit extraordinary skills in classroom teaching. Former winners are no longer eligible. These awards are sponsored by the University Teaching Council.
