CARES Center Basic Needs Support

The CARES Center provides both on and off-campus resources related to food, housing, finances, clothing and more. Students are welcome to speak to a Case Manager in the CARES Center regarding these resources.

Step Up Speak Out

Step Up and Speak Out is a collaborative effort that provides greater awareness of mental health concerns, including risk factors for suicide. This collaborative effort aims to support individuals in need by educating University community members on protocols and resources designed to assist in disruptive situations or with distressed individuals.

Tuition Insurance

The Tuition Protection Plan offered by GradGuard supplements Kent State University’s tuition credit policy  by reimbursing college costs for covered reasons for withdrawal including illness, injury, mental health disorder, death of tuition payer, etc. To learn more, click the link below.

In the unfortunate event of a current student’s death, the Dean of Students serves as the point person and lead of the student death protocol. Our protocol regarding the death of a student is centered around compassion for the family and the wellness of our university community..

Care Team

Kent State University’s Care Team is a cross-divisional crisis management committee that collaboratively assesses and coordinates a response to student behavior identified as reasonably posing a potential threat to self, others, or the University community. Referrals to the Care Team may be made by contacting the Student Ombuds Office at 330-672-9494 or the Dean of Students at 330-672-8003 or by email ODOS@kent.edu for a unified institutional response. If there are concerns about a student possibly being an imminent threat to themselves or others should call 9-1-1.
