Support Kent State Trumbull

Dear Alumni and Friends,

Kent State Trumbull offers students an opportunity to earn a degree at one of Ohio's largest university systems at an affordable cost. Every effort is made to help students graduate career-ready and without significant student debt. Many of our students are managing part- and full-time jobs along with family obligations. Your generosity provides them with scholarships, modern facilities and the latest technology to enhance their learning experiences.

Donor support has also allowed us to create safety net services to meet physical and mental health needs. During the past year, Flash’s Food Pantry was launched to assist with food insecurity and a clothes closet program provides professional attire for job interviews. Mental health counseling is available for students as well as yoga classes and mindfulness instruction.

In partnership with Inspiring Minds, the Rising Scholars program identifies and provides wrap-around support to middle and high school students who will be the first in their families to earn a college degree. Unique educational experiences have also been made available to students such as study abroad trips to China, Poland and Italy.

You are an integral part of our campus community. You are helping to provide local students with the most precious gift: the chance to live a better life and gain a meaningful career. It enriches their lives. It strengthens their families. It advances our community. I am deeply grateful for your support.

As we look to the future, Kent State Trumbull is focused on key priorities that will better position our students, faculty and staff for continued success:

  • Scholarships - Students who are ready to learn should not be prevented from doing so because of financial obstacles.  More than 80 percent of our students qualify for financial aid. In addition, nearly 50 percent of the student population is of non-traditional age. Many students are juggling the additional demands of maintaining a job and raising a family.  Scholarship support is often a determining factor between staying in school and dropping out. You can support our students through a variety of scholarships.
  • Rising Scholars - In collaboration with Inspiring Minds, the Rising Scholars Program helps young, first-generation students in Warren City Schools create their own idea of success and be confident in who they are becoming. Through peer mentoring, the program supports these youth in preparing for college and careers after high school and seeks to unleash their full potential. Your gift will support the hiring of mentors, program activities and scholarships.
  • Nursing - The healthcare industry is the largest source of employment in the Mahoning Valley. Kent State Trumbull is training future generations of nurses by offering a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree that can be fully completed on our campus. Students fulfill their clinical requirement at local healthcare facilities and become part of the local workforce upon graduation. Your gift can support our state-of-the-art nursing lab or scholarships for local students.

Do you have a fund in mind you would like to support but do not see it listed? Please contact Dave Smith to discuss ( or 330-675-8840).

  • Kent State Trumbull Theatre - The Kent State Trumbull Theatre opened in 1970 and has contributed to the local arts community for more than five decades. In addition to performances during the academic year, Summer Stock exposes area youth to the theater, many of them for the first time. Your support will assist with facility needs, programming and student scholarships.
  • Gelbke Library - The Gelbke Trumbull Library supports student research and creativity while serving as a collaborative meeting space. The library is also accessible to the local community.
  • Study Away and Study Abroad - Global and national educational experiences helps students engage in other cultures in a way that cannot be taught in a classroom. They will experience the world and country from a different perspective and develop skills that will benefit them for the rest of their lives. Because of financial constraints, regional campus students are less likely to study away while in college. Your support can make that possible.
  • Trumbull Care Closet – Opening in Fall 2021, it was created by the 2020-21 Undergraduate Student Government and will provide food and personal items as well as casual and professional clothing to students in need.

Your choices of where and how to support Kent State students, our vision and our mission are endless, and include a variety of scholarships and programs. These university-wide key initiatives impact a large population of our students and your gift will make an immediate and lasting impact.

Emergency Grant Fund supports students during pandemic - With the multitude of challenges related to the COVID-19 pandemic, thousands of students and their families are encountering unexpected financial challenges associated with travel, food, housing, technology needs and, in some cases, lost wages by both the student and parents. “Our students need us now more than ever,” said Kent State President Todd Diacon. “I am confident our Golden Flash family will answer that call, because despite the uncertainty we are all facing at this time, there is one thing that remains constant: Flashes Take Care of Flashes.”

Scholarships put students first - At Kent State, we have a laser focus on ensuring that students have the education, experiences and support they need to graduate and to live successful, meaningful lives. Our deep and unwavering commitment to putting Students First has guided the development of strategies and a culture that welcomes all students with open arms and pushes them to become more than they ever imagined. Raising funds to align with scholarship needs is our first priority at Kent State, and ensures we support our students from the day they receive their letter of acceptance, to the day they receive their degree.

Study abroad experiences - Every student—regardless of their age, means or area of interest—should have the opportunity to receive a global education. That’s why we offer education abroad scholarships to students of all majors. Your gift can help open up a world that students didn’t even know existed. Study abroad opportunities are some of the most direct and effective ways to transform a student’s life for the better, empowering students to engage in once-in-a-lifetime opportunities for study, research and exploration. We encourage students of all majors to expand their worldview through studying abroad in one of our programs in more than 60 countries, and we see tremendous interest in participating in these experiences. Many students just can't afford to do so without financial support.

College of Public Health develops health care leaders, innovations - Through teaching, research and service, the College of Public Health is living out its mission to develop public health leaders and promote public health innovations in collaboration with community partners both locally and globally. Together, our faculty, staff and students are making tremendous impacts on the health of those on our campuses, regionally, across the country and around the world. Our graduates are needed now more than ever to address global health concerns.
