Wick Poetry Center Named as the 2021 Knight Arts Challenge Winner
Poets are the means by which a place comes to know itself
We are thrilled to announce that the Wick Poetry Center is one of six winners for the 2021 Knight Arts Challenge Akron and has received $125,000 for our two-year project, Mapping Akron: A Poetic Exploration of Home!
With the generous support of the John S & James L Knight Foundation, we will create an interactive poetic map of Akron displayed in pop-up exhibits throughout the city. In January we are excited to begin working with our amazing community partners, Akron Public Schools, Akron-Summit County Public Library, International Institute of Akron, Akron Art Museum, and many others!
Knight Foundation Vice President for the Arts, Victoria Rogers, said:
“The winners represent Akron's vibrant art scene, and their projects incorporate technology to reach broader audiences. They are a testament to the resilience of artists who have faced tremendous obstacles during the past year, such as physical distancing and shuttered venues.”
We are excited to engage Akronites of all ages to create and share poems and images that express their sense of belonging to their city and neighborhood.
