FAFSA AND SCHOLARSHIP DEADLINE UPDATE (as of 2/6/24)

Due to a new announcement from the Department of Education on Tuesday February 5, 2024, we are aligning our Kent Campus scholarship and FAFSA dates accordingly. We will continue to award merit scholarships to new summer/fall admits through March 15. The new priority submission date for the FAFSA will also be March 15.

FAFSA TIMELINE UPDATE (as of 03/15/24)

• December-March 15, 2024
  • You can still submit your FAFSA after March 15.
  • Complete FAFSA at studentaid.gov if you have not done so.
  • Check status of FAFSA to verify it is complete for all contributors.
  • As long as you submitted the FAFSA by March 15, you have met our deadline, even if you need to add our school code later.
• FAFSA Submission Summary information will be sent by the U.S. Department of Education to students by early April (soft launch)
  • Corrections to a submitted FAFSA can be made after you receive your FAFSA submission summary. (watch your email)
• FAFSA will be sent to Kent State University by the U.S. Department of Education by early April in batches.
  • We will notify students when we receive your FAFSA.
  • Students who need to make corrections to their FAFSA should be able to make corrections after the FAFSA is officially processed by Federal Student Aid and the student has received notification of their FAFSA submission summary
• Financial Aid will begin sending Offer Letters to new students in mid-April 

What does this mean for you and your family?

• If you’ve submitted your FAFSA, your data will be sent to you and your selected schools starting the first half of March. Federal Student Aid will notify you when your FAFSA is processed and if corrections need to be made. 
• If you haven’t, please submit the 2024-25 FAFSA by March 15. Submitting your FAFSA by our extended priority deadline ensures you will qualify for the maximum scholarships and receive the best financial aid offer. View our campus school codes. 
• Once we receive your FAFSA and are confident the information is accurate, Financial Aid Offers will be sent to all students who have submitted a FAFSA to Kent State University. Previously, we planned to send financial aid offers in March, but we are expecting a delay due to this news, which impacts schools nationwide.

UPDATED FAFSA DEADLINE IN RESPONSE TO FAFSA DELAYS (as of 1/12/24)

The 2024-25 Free Application for Federal Aid went live as scheduled by December 2023 and is available to complete at fafsa.gov. Although the FAFSA is live, the Department of Education continues to monitor site performance and review issues and concerns based on feedback from students and families.

In response to challenges students and families have experienced related to the launch of the FAFSA, Kent State University has extended our FAFSA deadline from Feb. 15 to March 1. This means you must file the FAFSA by March 1 to be eligible for maximum scholarships and the best financial aid offer from Kent State University.

If you were able to complete the FAFSA, the University Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid at Kent State will not receive your FAFSA results until mid-March at the earliest. Previously, we planned to send financial aid offers in March, but we are expecting a delay due to this news, which impacts schools nationwide.

2024–25 FAFSA SOFT LAUNCH DETAILS AND TIMELINES (as of 12/15/23)

In a Dec. 15, 2023 announcement, Federal Student Aid (FSA) expanded upon previously shared information about the timeline of the 2024–25 FAFSA form launch and shared additional details for what applicants and families can expect through February 2024.

As previously announced, students and families will be able to complete and submit the 2024–25 FAFSA form online by Dec. 31. FSA will be treating the period leading up to and following Dec. 31 as a soft launch period, which will allow Federal Student Aid to monitor and respond in real time to any potential issues impacting the applicant experience.

 WHAT TO EXPECT DURING THE SOFT LAUNCH OF THE 2024-25 FAFSA FORM

During the soft launch period, the Department will be monitoring site performance, conducting planned pauses for maintenance, and making updates to improve the user experience for students and families.

Students and families will have ample time to complete the 2024-25 FAFSA, and do not need to rush to fill out the form immediately when the soft launch period opens, as FSA will not transmit results to schools until later in January.
