KENT, Ohio – The Ambassador Crawford College of Business and Entrepreneurship will host the 46th Annual Meonske Professional Development Conference May 19-20 at Kent State University.
The annual conference provides attendees with an opportunity to learn and network with other accounting and finance professionals. The conference is named for Norman Meonske, the conference founder and a former Kent State accounting professor.
This year’s event will feature engaging sessions on a variety of timely topics relevant to accounting and finance professionals. It provides 16 hours of Continuing Professional Education (CPE). Early registration for the conference is $195 per person per day. Deadline for registration is Tuesday, May 10. Late registration begins Wednesday, May 11 and the cost is $245 per person per day. Participants at this year’s conference will benefit from a thoughtful exploration of current issues and future trends impacting the profession. A broad range of topics will be covered throughout the two days.
On Thursday May 19, Sandy Volpe, Senior VP at FedEx Ground, will open the event with the presentation “Connecting the Links of the Supply Chain.” The term “supply chain” has garnered heavy media coverage. Volpe will demystify this intangible and invaluable chain, providing insight into how a series of broken links can impact industries and consumers alike. Guhan Venkatu from the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland will discuss how the Cleveland Fed keeps tabs on the economy during these tumultuous times. “Disrupting Disruptive Transformations” will be presented by Gabe Zubizarreta, CEO and founding principal at Silicon Valley Accountants.
Lunch on Thursday will feature an update from Stephen McNally, chair of the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA)’s Global Board of Directors.
Concurrent tracks will be offered Thursday afternoon. “Trends in Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance Reporting” will be presented by Timothy F. Gearty, CPA, MBA, JD, CGMA, Partner, Gearty & McIntyre. Two panel discussions will take place that afternoon. “From Side Gigs to Hanging out Your Shingle” will be led by moderator Serena Loftus, Ph.D. featuring panelists Josh Bauerle, Bob Fay and Jessica Vargo. Andy Weyand, Director of Career Services for the Ambassador Crawford College of Business and Entrepreneurship, will moderate a panel on “Retaining, Developing and Recruiting Accounting and Finance Talent” featuring panelists Sara Martin, Lori Fausel and Jacob Hershberger.
On Friday, May 20, moderator Russell Golden, former FASB chair, will join panelists Paul Munter, Kyle Moffatt and James L. Kroeker as they discuss the latest regulations and their practical application to the world of financial reporting.
Lunch on Friday features Laura Hay, Executive Vice President of the Ohio Society of Certified Public Accountants (OSCPA), providing an “Accounting Profession Update.” Two concurrent tracks will be featured in the afternoon, “Current Challenges from Differing Perspectives: A CXO Panel” and “Diversity - Creating a Culture of Inclusion.” Deloitte partner Kyle Cheney, along with the corporate controllers from Sherwin-Williams Corp, The JM Smucker Company and Eaton Corp., will discuss “Controllership in the Digital Era.”
