KENT, Ohio – Ilgaz Arikan, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Management at the Kent State College of Business Administration, recently collaborated with the Academy of International Business (AIB) to launch a video series, “Frontline IB:
According to Arikan, the project began as an effort to distill the experiences of the top international business scholars in an interview format to benefit Ph.D. students and younger scholars. In the meantime, he was also pursuing a research stream on creativity, so part of the interview focused on the creativity in scholarship. After the third interview, the effort gained recognition in the field, and AIB decided to house the project under its roof. Interviews span about 30 minutes and cover a range of topics including the author’s professional journey, an overview of their body of work and a number of topics they find promising for future research. Each week, two videos featuring conversations between Arikan and a different scholar are released publicly. All published videos can be viewed here.
“I hope these interviews will inspire junior faculty and Ph.D. students to strive for excellent IB/strategy research in the future,” Arikan said. “Because the recordings will constitute a library, we think new scholars will visit them every year.”
Arikan received a Ph.D. from the Ohio State University. Prior to his current position at Kent State University, he taught at Boston University, Georgia State University and at the Ohio State University in MBA, Executive MBA and Executive Education programs. He has authored articles in journals such as Academy of Management Review, Management Information Systems Quarterly, Academy of Management Journal, Journal of International Business Studies, Strategic Management Journal, and chapters in academic and professional journals and books on entrepreneurial and established firms' strategies and the choice between initial public offerings, mergers and acquisitions, heritage firms, dynamic capabilities, opportunity creation, entrepreneurial curiosity and creativity, nationalism, impact of animosity between nations on firms’ international market entry and governance choices, strategic alliances and joint ventures.
Arikan is an expert in the management of Italian firms. In additions to his academic work, he consults to small and mid-size firms in emerging markets in market entry, creating and sustaining competitive advantages and strategy formulation.
