Internships and Research

Finding Work-Based Learning Experiences

All COF scholars will engage in at least one work-based learning experience prior to graduation. These can include (but not limited to) internships, co-ops, research, clinical experiences, or education experiences.

COF scholars will attend workshops and speaker events for information about Internships, Research, and Career Preparation.

COF scholars will receive a variety of career services:

  • Career information and counseling about career paths in Ohio
  • Identification of career-related internship and options and opportunities business partners
  • Career preparation, including mock interviews, resume and CV writing support
  • Follow up with career counselors after internship completion for further optimization of preparation for job placement

Research Experiences

For Research experiences, COF scholars engage in university-wide programs at Kent State or identify faculty research advisors with their COF Academic Advisors.

Summer Undergraduate Research Experience

An eight-week summer program for COF students to engage in faculty-supervised research, provided with a $2,800 stipend and on-campus housing.

BHRI Undergraduate Research Fellows Program

An immersive program for COF students interested in neuroscience research that includes research-intensive experiences in neuroscience labs as well as individual mentoring, skills training and career development support, followed by a capstone presentation of their research.

McNair Scholars Program

An eight-week Summer Research Institute where Kent State McNair Scholars work with faculty mentors on selected research topics to learn the basic principles for conducting successful research and present their research projects to the University Community. This will be open to first-generation and low-income COF students.
