Public Policy and Administration

The Center for Public Policy and Health has a history of assisting government entities at the local, state, and federal levels. The Center provides assistance to public officials through the publication of research, technical assistance, and training. Activities focus on a variety of subject areas, including traditional public administration issues, such as public budgeting and strategic planning, to public policy issues such as urban redevelopment. The Center’s current and past work in this area is outlined below.

Current Projects

Ohio Municipal Clerks Association (OMCA) Training Program. The Center works with the OMCA Professional Development Committee to plan, develop, and implement a continuing education program for municipal clerks in the states of Ohio and West Virginia. Clerks who attend the trainings can earn points toward certification by the International Institute of Municipal Clerk s (IIMC). Past Projects

Greater Akron LGBTQ+ Needs Assessment (2022) Under the direction of Andrew Snyder, BSN, MPH, Kent State University partnered with over 180 people from 116 greater Akron community organizations to conduct the first comprehensive and specific LGBTQ+ Community Needs Assessment (CNA). Efforts of this assessment focused on producing a better-informed public health system and improving the health and well-being of the LGBTQ+ community. Learn more.

Greater Cleveland LGBTQ+ Needs Assessment (2023) The Greater Cleveland LGBTQ+ Community Needs Assessment was led by Kent State University’s College of Public Health under the direction of principal investigator, Andrew Snyder, BSN, MPH. This project was made possible through partnerships with over an estimated 100 community organizations, including stakeholders and local government officials in Greater Cleveland, engaging LGBTQ+ community members from Cuyahoga, Lake, Lorain, and Geauga counties.
