This year’s theme was “Kent State Connected.” The Division of Human Resources sponsors the Office Support Staff Recognition program each year to recognize support staffers in various departments, divisions and campuses.
In order to perform necessary maintenance on the boilers, steam transmission systems and electrical distribution systems, Kent State University’s Power Plant will be shut down from 6 p.m. on Sunday, May 15, to 6 p.m. on Sunday, May 22.
As a result of the steam shutdown, most buildings located on the Kent Campus will NOT have hot water to sinks and showers, etc., and/or heat and air conditioning.
The Division of Human Resources sets a minimum goal of two hours of Beyond Compliance training for all faculty and staff to complete each fiscal year. Beyond Compliance training provides a mix of learning opportunities that are geared toward relevant laws, university policies and violence prevention.
Renovation of the Schwartz Center (R12) lot and Kent Student Center Visitor Parking lot is set to begin this summer. Both parking lots will be closed beginning May 16 through mid-August.
Additionally, the R10 lot between Lake Hall and the Memorial Athletic and Convocation (MAC) Center will be closed throughout summer to all vehicles, except those with disability permits. This lot closure also will begin May 16 to allow for reconstruction of Williams Drive, which will connect to the newly designed Risman Drive.
Elizabeth (Beth) Graham, Ph.D., will become the new director of Kent State University’s School of Communication Studies, effective July 1, 2016. Graham currently serves as a professor for the University of Akron’s School of Communication; she served as the school’s director from 2010-2014.

From a perspective of nearly 50 years, Kent State remembers the tragedy and leads a contemporary discussion and understanding of how the community, nation and world can benefit from understanding the profound impact of the event.
