Welcome to International Studies! This is a major that takes you on a journey of reimagining your world. It is for those who want to make a difference on a global scale and who want to understand how global forces affect local outcomes.

One of the keys to the major is that it is interdisciplinary, which means it encourages students to explore international questions from multiple perspectives. What do you wonder about?

  • Where does garbage go when I throw it away?
  • Where do the global rich hide their money? And why?
  • What role do women play in nationalist movements? In global finance? Elsewhere?
  • What in the world is going on in Russia? The Middle East? Latin America?
  • What can I DO in such an overwhelming world?

Whatever it is, you can explore it here, and you can do it in multiple ways. If you like looking at issues from different angles, this major may be for you. International Relations also emphasizes the ability to communicate globally and locally. We encourage language study and education abroad for students who can make it work, and the university has lots of options for you to consider (https://www.kent.edu/EducationAbroad)!

Throughout your time at Kent, the major emphasizes your ability to make a difference, even when the world seems big. From our core courses on up, our classes emphasize both scholarship and practice, helping students see where they can influence global processes.

So all that’s left is for you to decide the venue where you want to make a difference. International Studies majors end up in every career imaginable—including Business, International organizations, Non-profit agencies, Law, Journalism, Government, Advocacy, and more—so if that sounds exciting to you, give us a look!
