(Gail) Kim Dority
Biography
Kim Dority, M.L.I.S., is an information professional who has worked both independently as president of Dority & Associates as well as in multiple LIS roles for various organizations. She created the role of Chief Information Advisor to a cable telecommunication CEO, was instrumental in establishing the special-collections library for the Cable Television center, and has led multiple online content development teams, including creating the first virtual academic library. She created and taught a course, “Alternative LIS Careers,” for the University of Denver MLIS program for 20 years, and also briefly led the program as interim director.
Her content development and information strategy clients have included both for-profit and nonprofit organizations across a diverse range of industries and disciplines. Because her own information career has been both so eclectic and rewarding, she loves sharing that expansive view of the profession - and the impact our skills can have - with graduate students.
In fact, of all the career opportunities she has had, Kim finds working with students and helping them find their LIS/LAM path to be the most enjoyable way to continue contributing her LIS knowledge. (She also does career consulting for the San José State University, University of Southern California, and University of Tennessee-Knoxville graduate programs, as well as by request for LIS/LAM professional associations). Based in Colorado, she began teaching as an adjunct instructor for Kent State's iSchool program in 2017 and is still learning amazing things about Ohio, its people and its culture.
