Biography

Mary Ann Stahr, Ph.D., began teaching for Kent State University in 1997 at the College of Education, Health and Human Services. She recently joined the iSchool faculty here at Kent State as an adjunct instructor for the School Library Media K-12 program. She received her Ph.D. in Education, and her M.L.S., and M.Ed. from Kent State University, after finishing her B.A. in English at Northern Illinois University. She is a National Board Certified Teacher for Early Childhood/Young Adulthood Library Media.

Stahr recently retired from her work as a Library Media Specialist as district coordinator. She served 28 years in the same school district in both the middle and high school as a Library Media Specialist. Through this work, she gained extensive experience advising and supporting faculty with engaging, online learning activities. One of her many notable projects in this position encouraged teachers to integrate novels into Non-Language Arts classrooms. Over the years, Stahr has participated at many conferences focused on the fields of LIS and Education, and has presented all over Ohio. For example, she was a panel participant in “Opioids in Communities-Libraries in Response” in Twinsburg, Ohio (OhioNET) and presented “Dissecting Reading: Common Core Literacy in Science” at an OELMA Conference.

Stahr is also the Executive Director of Kids in the Loop, a non-profit in Ohio that supports children who have one or more parents incarcerated. Lately, Stahr has concentrated on writing courses of studies for K-12 and educational programs for the incarcerated.

*The School of Information faculty are superstars in the field. Therefore, it is impossible to list all of the great work they do on one page. Listed below is a small selection of Dr. Stahr’s recent work. Further information can be viewed in her CV or on her LinkedIn page.
