iSchool Offers Scholarships to Students, Alumni, for OELMA Freedom to Read Forum

Event To Take Place at Kent State Library, June 22

The Kent State School of Information is offering scholarships for current students and alumni, to cover the cost of attending OELMA's Freedom to Read Forum, happening June 22, 2022, at the Kent State University Library. The event takes place from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the third floor.

Interested current students and alumni should fill out this brief survey HERE to qualify for a paid scholarship to cover the OELMA event cost.

  • Scholarships are limited and will be granted on a first come, first serve basis.
  • Students awarded scholarships will be reimbursed to their Bursar’s account a few weeks after the event. Alumni will be contacted by Sarah Molina, business manager, to be reimbursed which may take a few weeks.

The Freedom to Read Forum will include keynote speakers, sessions, discussion panels, and more on the following topics:

  • Teaching information literacy in the time of censorship
  • Book Challenges: Policy & Process
  • Courts, Censorship: Ramifications for School Libraries
  • Collection Development: Best Practices 
  • Building a School Community Coalition before the Book Challenge

Keynote speakers include: Chic Canfora, Ph.D., Kent State Professional-in-Residence, Professor Belinda Boon, Ph.D. (iSchool), Professor Danielle Sarver Coombs, Ph.D. (Media and Journalism) and Senior Lecturer Mary Anne Nichols, M.L.S.

Cost for the event is $50 for OELMA members and $60 for non-members. A boxed lunch is included. Please note: The venue for this event has changed, and is no longer in Franklin Hall.
