40th Anniversary

In 2015 we celebrated 40 years of Jewish Studies at Kent State University!

May 17, 2015 - 40th Anniversary Celebration

With a tribute to founding director Dr. Herbert Hochhauser

Kent State University’s Jewish Studies Program was founded in 1975 with a grant from the Jewish Services Center—Five Communities Board (Akron, Canton, Cleveland, Kent, and Youngstown). Since then, we have grown and furthered our mission by establishing:

  • A minor in Jewish Studies
  • Student scholarships and internships
  • An annual bus trip to the Holocaust Museum in DC
  • Poland and Israel study abroad programs
  • Academic ties with Israel
  • Midwest Jewish Studies Association Conference host
  • Speaker series program for students and the greater community
