DeWeese Health Center offers PEP and PrEP!

PEP and PrEP are medications that can prevent HIV. When taken as directed both are highly effective at preventing HIV. Is PEP or PrEP right for you?

Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP)

  • Taken after a single high-risk exposure to HIV
  • Must be started as soon as possible - always within 72 hours of a possible exposure
  • Prescribed a 28-day course of 3 antiretroviral medications
  • Baseline screenings will be needed for initiating PEP

Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP)

  • Medication taken by people that are at ongoing risk for getting HIV from sex or injection drug use
