Should my parents/guardians attend First Step with me?
Your parents/guardians are welcome to attend First Step with you, but their attendance is optional. We will have programming specifically for parents/guests if they attend.
I completed a college-level course at another university or at my high school (CCP) and received a grade. Who should I tell?
You will need to contact the college or university where you received credit and have them send an official copy of your transcript to transcripts@kent.edu. Please bring an unofficial copy of your current transcript with you to First Step in case your classes have not been processed. We will use this information to help advise you on classes to prevent overlap.

Do I have to take placement tests?
Kent State University requires students to demonstrate their knowledge and skills in mathematics, English (writing), reading, and foreign language. Students demonstrate their knowledge and skills through GPA, ACT or SAT scores, and/or placement tests.
Placement tests are designed to help academic advisors and students determine which courses will provide the best opportunity for success. Your academic advisor will review your placements with you during First Step. If placement tests are required, you will complete them on your First Step day.
