Christian Cunningham, senior aeronautical studies major at Kent State University, has been doubted. Some said he would never become a pilot. But Cunningham is already proving them wrong. Graduation is on the horizon, and he and his internship were recently featured on CNN. “People would always say I couldn’t do it because I had glasses, or 'there’s not a lot of black pilots,’” Cunningham said. This fall, Kent State students took part in a nationwide effort to increase voting participation through design. The project is part of the professional organization for design, AIGA’s Design for Democracy initiative. Every year since 2000, AIGA has activated its community of designers to design 11x17 posters, encouraging citizens to “get out the vote.” This year, the organization also recognized the 100th centennial of the 19th Amendment’s ratification, which made way for the first legislation for women’s voting rights.
