Lawrence Weidleman tried attending college soon after being discharged from the U.S. Army. He had been injured during Operation Desert Storm/Desert Shield so he was still very young. But he realized in short order that he wasn’t ready. You could tell Michelle Van Dyke was choking up as she mentioned there were many times when she had to choose whether to buy gas or food on any given day. On October 11th and 12th Kent State University held a symposium titled, “Documenting Violence,” which included discussions of violent crimes and mass murders in Guatemala, the former Yugoslavia, and the U.S., including the events of September 11, 2001.  Forensic science was the focus of the second evening, and the talks provided an excellent preview of material taught in KSU’s new Forensic Anthropology courses.
