Study Abroad/Study Away

The College of Nursing offers multiple study abroad/away opportunities that enable you to study health care with a global perspective.

Nursing students have the opportunity to travel to one of these locations: London, England/Florence, Italy/Pine Ridge Indian Reservation to study. While there, you will learn with international experts and earn academic credits toward your degree.

Florence, Italy:

Class Dates: May 30 to June 24, 2027
Application Deadline: February 1, 2027

​From fashion to biology to hospitality management, the Kent State Florence Summer Institute program offers a comprehensive academic and cultural program for students in any major. 

In this creative study abroad experience, students from Kent State University will study a total of six (6) credits of required nursing classes in Florence for one month during the summer. All courses will be offered at both the undergraduate and graduate level in order to satisfy a variety of students’ academic needs.

Courses & Credits: count toward the required courses of Nursing Professional Development and Health Policy

  • NURS 40089 International Health Care Policies (or NURS 50089 for graduate level) (3 credits)
  • NURS 40005 Professional Nursing Development (3 credits)

Estimated Cost: $4,425 + tuition. Includes airfare, program fee, health insurance, and apartment housing.

London/UK

Dates: March 13 to March 20, 2027 (Spring Break 2027)

Eligibility: Graduate and undergraduate nursing students who have started the nursing sequence
Applications Open: October 1, 2026

Applications Close: October 31, 2026

Accepting Deadlines: 

  • Accepted students and scholarship recipients will be notified by Friday November 7th. 
  • OGE application and $1000 Deposit due December 1st. 
  • Final program payment of $2200 due by January 13th and will post with Spring Tuition bill. 

Number of Students Accepted: 20
Anticipated Cost: $3200 and includes airfare, accommodations, breakfast every day, two (2) lunches, and one (1) dinner.

STUDY AWAY: Pine Ridge Reservation, South Dakota, through Kent State University at Salem 

Dates: March 12 - March 22, 2027 (Spring Break 2027)

Eligibility: All nursing students in the nursing sequence (BSN or ADN).

Experiences: Healthcare settings, public health nursing, community gardening, Pine Ridge dormitory, schools and sightseeing as time allows
Estimated Cost: Approximately $1500 plus tuition for NURS32060. Includes airfare, lodging, and transportation. Fundraising opportunities available.
