Porthouse Theatre presents staged reading of new musical, Minnie Quay

Music, lyrics, book, orchestrations and direction by Kent State alumni

Cuyahoga Falls, OH – Porthouse Theatre, Kent State University’s professional outdoor summer theatre located on the grounds of Blossom Music Center, is proud to present a special staged reading of a new musical, Minnie Quay. Performances will take place on Thurs. and Fri., Aug. 7 and 8 at 3 p.m.

Based on a popular American folk legend, this haunting new musical tells of Minnie Quay, a young girl in a Michigan port town who falls in love with a sailor against her parents' wishes. With fate and circumstance tearing them apart, Minnie is forced to decide what ultimate price she is willing to pay for love.

Minnie Quay was created by Kent State University School of Theatre and Dance alumni Connor Simpson* (music and lyrics), Anna Bradley* (book) and Vincent Ester* (orchestrations). The production is directed by Kent State School of Theatre and Dance alumnus Jerimie Newcomb* and stage-managed by Molly Patterson.

The special staged reading of Minnie Quay features members of Porthouse Theatre’s 2014 Young Professional Company as well as several Kent State School of Theatre and Dance alumni and current students. 

The production features Mackenzie Duan* as Minnie Quay, Darian Lunsford as Andrew (Sam) Samson, Jessica Nicole Benson as Mary Ann Quay, Elliott Litherland as James Quay, Dylan Ratell* as Silas Monroe, Lucy Anders as Polly Miller, Courtney Nelson as Martha Hardy, Miriam Henkel-Moellmann* as Mrs. Boyd, Daniel Lindenberger* as Tommy Daniels, and Christopher D. Tuck^ as Jack Porter. 

Additionally, Lucy Anders, Liz Woodard, Courtney Nelson, Miriam Henkel-Moellmann*, Daniel Lindenberger*, Jason Kolbicz*, Tekla Gaughn, Matti Chrisman, and John Lagucki comprise the Lake Chorus and the Ensemble.
