CLOUD COMPUTING WITH KENT STATE RESEARCH CLUSTER (MICROSOFT AZURE)
Use: Moderate to high end computing using Microsoft resources at a cost.
Preferred Communication Method:  Submitting a Cloud Computing ticket will prompt a member of the IT research team to reach out to you to help determine what level of processing power is needed and which service to connect you with.

Use: Anyone who conducts research has the responsibility to protect the data collected and used for their research.  This is especially important when the data contains personal identifiers or enough detailed information that the identity of the participating subjects can be inferred, contain information that is highly sensitive, or covered by a restricted use agreement.  Please refer to our data handling guide (requiring KSU authentication) when preparing to store and access your data.

COMPLIANCE - Human and Animal Testing Subjects related
Use: Research projects involving human or animal subjects are subject to federal, state, local and university laws and policies and may not begin without appropriate training and approval.

Use: Consultation on efficient data movement for large-scale sets used in machine learning, statistical analysis, or big data research.

Use: To know where to store your data you first need to classify the sensitivity level of your data.  Please reference the table on our Data Handling Guide (requires KSU authentication) to determine that level and how to properly store your data.

GRANT LANGUAGE REGARDING RESEARCH TECHNOLOGY
Use: When applying for grants, it is often necessary to include language around the technology resources available to you as a researcher.  These PDFs (requiring KSU authentication) describe our research cluster, institutional repository of academic and research output (OAKS), and Ohio's Supercomputer Center and should be used in your grant application/s.

Use: Reference this overview (requiring KSU authentication) of Kent State's HPC offerings, including basic information about our first centrally supported research computing cluster, Ohio Supercomputer Center and Open Science Grid access, and our Microsoft Azure cloud computing.

OHIO SUPER COMPUTER (OSC) ACCESS
Use: High performance computational (HPC) services via the Ohio Supercomputer Center (OSC), which leverages significant economies of scale resulting in better services and cost savings. Submitting an HPC ticket will prompt a member of the IT research team to reach out to you to help determine what level of processing power is needed and which service to connect you with. 
Preferred Communication Method: Submit a HPC ticket for an initial inquiry. Submit an OSC credits ticket to purchase OSC credits. Direct follow-up questions to ERTS@kent.edu.

OPEN SCIENCE GRID (OSG) ACCESS
Use: The OSG Consortium operates a fabric of distributed High Throughput Computing (dHTC) services in support of the National Science & Engineering community.  The Division of Technology's research team can enable any researcher performing Open Science to become a OSpool user through the Kent State University OSG-Operated Access Point.  Submitting an HPC ticket will prompt a member of the IT research team to reach out to you to help determine what level of processing power is needed and which service to connect you with.

QUALITATIVE RESEARCH SOFTWARE
Use: Review and evaluate available software designed for qualitative researchers working with very rich text-based and/or multimedia information, where deep levels of analysis on small or large volumes of data are required. Downloads available at software.kent.edu

QUANTUM COMPUTING
Use: Highest Level of computing, requires special coding and the use of quantum algorithms to solve complex research needs.
