Yes, to register for Summer classes you must first be admitted as a Guest Student.
To apply, visit our apply now page and choose the Post-undergraduate, Non-Degree Guest Student option from our drop-down menu.
Once you have received your Kent State ID, you can follow these instructions on the Help Desk website to create a default password.
You may have applied as a Transfer Student rather than a Guest Student.

At this point, your registration window will no longer be active. You will need to go through the process of applying as a Guest Student. It's likely that you will be assigned the same FlashLine ID as the registration system will recognize that it has you on file.
There is no penalty. Guest Student admissions are temporary, one-semester admissions.
If you do not register during that semester your admission status will become inactive and, if you wish to attend at a later date, you will need to complete the Guest Student application process again.

You will need to contact the academic department and establish that you have met the prerequisite(s) at your home institution. If you simply try to register, without getting departmental approval, the registration system will block you from doing so as it can only see courses you have taken at Kent State. Check with your Canvas course for instructions on communication from your professor. Check-in regularly to view updates. Unless otherwise instructed, Kent email will be the preferred means of communication. Check your syllabus or look for an email link in your Canvas course.
If you simply want to take a class or classes online, you would follow the process described above for applying as a guest student. Then you will be free to select either face-to-face or online courses.
Faculty now use a service that allows for online proctoring. You will need to check with the faculty member or academic department to be certain.

If you are a Kent State student, you must submit your Financial Aid Enrollment Plans within the Scholarships & Financial Aid section in FlashLine.
If you are not a Kent State student, you should contact the financial aid office at your home institution to determine if aid is available for courses taken at another institution.
You may be eligible to do so. All questions regarding veteran's benefits should be directed to the Center for Adult and Veteran Services at 330-672-7933.
You must check with your advisor or dean's office to determine if a particular course or courses will meet your degree requirements and the credits will be accepted. Once you complete a course at Kent State University, you will be able to request a transcript documenting your successful completion and the number of credit hours earned. But it is up to your home institution to determine if they will accept the credits.
