Kent State University President Todd Diacon announced Thursday that Lamar R. Hylton, Ph.D., has been selected to serve as vice president for student affairs, effective May 1, 2020. In addition, Diacon has appointed Amoaba Gooden, Ph.D., as the interim vice president for diversity, equity and inclusion, effective June 1, 2020.

Beginning Friday, May, visitors to the May 4 50th Commemoration website will be able to view a variety of special videos, online exhibits and interactive tours, all designed to honor and remember Allison Krause, Jeffrey Miller, Sandra Scheuer and William Schroeder, the Kent State students who lost their lives 50 years ago on the Kent State campus.

As the concern of the COVID-19 pandemic heightened throughout the month of March, Kent State made the decision to cancel face-to-face classes and move to completely online classes. But that meant some heavy lifting on the part of faculty, staff and students. Over the course of six days, Kent State's IT staff, Continuing and Distance Education staff, departmental educational technologists and instructional designers moved more than 8,000 traditional courses to digital learning platforms for remote instruction.

Kent State University was one of the first Ohio colleges to move all classes online, causing surrounding businesses to do the same, like WKSU. “WKSU began planning for potential disruptions at the beginning of March,” News Director Andrew Meyer said. “Within two weeks, it became clear that WKSU would need to take action on those plans.”
