Drones and Airports
An unmanned aircraft system (UAS), more commonly known as a drone, can not be flown within five miles of an airport unless the airport and control tower has been notified ahead of time. This is a requirement from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
Anyone who plans on flying a drone within a five mile radius of the Kent State University Airport should send an email to the Airport Manager at airport@kent.edu. The email should include the following information:
- Your name and contact information (phone number and/or e-mail address)
- The FAA registration number
- Location and time of the drone flight
Kent State has published recommended guidelines for safe drone usage on the Kent Campus. Read the guidelines.
You can find more information on drone requirements from the FAA website.
