DIFFICULT WORK AND SELF-CARE IN THE ACADEMY

Hosted in collaboration with the Division of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, AREI invites faculty to join us for our panel, "Difficult Work and Self-Care in the Academy" on Wednesday, April 19 at 3:30pm in the lower atrium of Cartwright Hall. This session will focus on strategies that promote life balance for faculty who teach or conduct research in areas that are controversial or highly politicized, with focused discussion on stress management, wellbeing, health, and productivity.

ESDRI & AREI announce the 2023 Environmental Justice, ecology, and race symposium

The Environmental Science and Design Research Initiative (ESDRI), in partnership with AREI, is pleased to announce the 2023 ESDRI Symposium, ‘Environmental Justice, Ecology, and Race’ which will take place April 13-14 at Kent State University. The Symposium will address issues including structural inequality, disparity and natural processes, climate justice, environmental conflict and activism, and equitable environmental design.

An evening with Roxane gay

Kent State’s Anti-Racism and Equity Institute invites members of the university community to attend “An Evening With Roxane Gay,” which will occur at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, April 26, 2022 in the Kent Student Center Ballroom. Research & Innovation Forum

Research and Sponsored Programs (RASP), hosted by AREI, invites the Kent State University community to join us for the "Research & Innovation Forum" being held on November 8, 2022 in the Kent State Student Center Ballroom Balcony at 3:30pm. This forum will feature the works of three scholars from diverse disciplines who are engaged in anti-racist work.

Race and Democracy in Northeast Ohio Initiative

The School of Peace and Conflict Studies (SPCS) is pleased to announce a new initiative on Race and Democracy in Northeast Ohio (RDNO). This initiative involves a collaborative partnership between the Growing Democracy Project, the Center for Pan-African Culture (CPAC), and SPCS. The RDNO initiative will include a 10-episode podcast series focused specifically on the intersections of race and democracy in northeast Ohio, community workshops on the topic of race and democracy, online curricular materials, Blog posts, and a white paper.  Learn more about the Growing Democracy Project on their website: www.GrowingDemocracyOH.org.

The Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI), in collaboration with the College of Arts and Sciences, is proud to announce a continuation of last year’s town hall series. Titled "Empowering Kent State: Valuing the Strength of Diversity," this series furthers our dedication to advancing and transforming our community’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.

Qualitative Research Methods: A Three-Part Seminar Series

This seminar series, presented by the Anti-Racism and Equity Institute, the Healthy Communities Research Institute, and the Graduate Certificate in Qualitative Methods program, will take place in three parts. Attendees will learn about innovations in qualitative research methods, data analysis, and finding and receiving funding. 

TEXTURES: The History and Art of Black Hair

TEXTURES explores the history of Black hair as well as its "complicated place in the history of African American Life and Culture" through the art exhibit being shown from Friday, September 10, 2021, to Sunday, August 7, 2022, at the Kent State University Museum.

NEA Big Read Northeast Ohio: Kent State Receives National Endowment for the Arts Big Read Grant

This endowment supports Big Read Northeast Ohio and events surrounding "An American Sunrise" by the United State's first Native American Poet Laureate Joy Harjo.
