Certificates vs. MBA Degree: Which Is Right for You?

Ultimately, the choice between pursuing individual certificates, stackable certificates that culminate in an MBA degree, or a traditional MBA program depends on your timeline, budget, and career goals. To assist you, we’ve created a breakdown on pursuing an MBA vs. certificates.

Choose Individual Certificates If...
Time is of the essence
Certificates can be completed much more quickly than a full degree, letting you rapidly acquire new skills, minimize career pauses, and apply new knowledge to current or future roles immediately.
Choose the MBA Path (Traditional or Stackable) If...
You desire comprehensive master's credentials
If your long-term career goals will be aided by completing an MBA program, both the traditional and stackable MBA routes can be greatly advantageous.

Your choice will likely be determined based on the time you can currently devote to a program and how quickly you want to finish.
Choose Individual Certificates If...
Cost-effectiveness is a priority
Graduate certificates feature lower tuition costs than a full degree program while still providing a high ROI by increasing earning potential and facilitating career growth.
Choose the MBA Path (Traditional or Stackable) If...
You want to steadily or progressively build your education
The traditional MBA program will cover core fundamentals throughout your coursework.

The certificate-to-MBA pathway lets you complete major portions of the coursework as part of the Quantitative Business Management and Leadership Management certificates.

In this structure, you will only need an additional 16–17 credit hours of capstone requirements and electives to complete the MBA.
Choose Individual Certificates If...
Niche areas are of interest
Pursuing certificates lets you acquire knowledge tailored to specific fields and roles while staying current on industry trends, technologies, and regulations.

For instance, accounting, leadership, business analytics, and financial management are among the certification options we offer to help you advance your skills.
