Field hockey player

Alexandra Sacker, senior, was so impressed with Kent State’s field hockey program she decided to “cross the pond” to Kent, Ohio, from her home in Tunbridge Wells, England, and an NCAA scholarship made her Kent State journey possible.

Fierce rivalry between Kent State and Akron comes down to competition and an old wagon wheel.

Don't miss it when the Kent State Golden Flashes play arch rival the Akron Zips on Feb. 3 for the Crystal Clinic Wagon Wheel Challenge contest. Tipoff is scheduled for 9 p.m. at Akron’s James A. Rhodes Arena. The game will air on ESPNU. 

George Jenkins, ’63 a

George Jenkins, ’63, and his wife Gina, recently established a planned gift to create the Gina and George Jenkins Student-Athlete Scholarship Fund. The scholarship will give preference to students from socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds, particularly those from the Appalachian region.

Issac Vance

Senior scholarship recipient Isaac Vance, ’22, received the Humanitarian Award at the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl football game in late December.

Deborah and Bill Asbury

While a student-athlete, Bill Asbury fell ill with acute renal failure; Kent State supported him then, and now Bill and wife Deborah support current Golden Flash student-athletes.
