Academic
Academic S.T.A.R.S.
(Students Achieving and Reaching for Success) is a special opportunity for selected students to continue achieving academic excellence beyond high school and into college. Over this seven-week summer program, you will learn more about your culture as an African American, Latinx, Native American or Multi-Race identifying student while:- Earning six free college credits
- Being part of a community with other students, professors and staff
- Building up your academic, personal, professional and social skills to help you in college
- Gaining a deeper sense of pride in your cultural identity
Program Cost
This program is completely free to students! The E. Timothy Moore Student Multicultural Center pays for:

Bridges Summer Program (Incoming First-Year Students)The Bridges Summer Program is designed for and offered to incoming first-year students from historically underrepresented and first-generation groups looking to pursue a degree in the College of Education, Health, and Human Services.
Advantages of Participating in the Summer Bridges Program:
- A 5-week experience that includes FREE on-campus housing and a meal plan
- Receive up to 7 credits hours before starting the fall semester
- Students have access to peer-tutoring and mentoring provided by/from the EHHS faculty and staff
- Access to College Success workshops and opportunities to explore social and cultural activities in Portage County
- Involvement through Community Service projects and initiatives
- Gain life-long friendships and campus confidence

The Office of Continuing Education offers a variety of workshops in education, art education, and other areas. Credit workshops, like for-credit continuing education courses, meet university and Ohio Board of Regents standards for contact hours and out-of-class time and adhere to the cost per credit hour set by the University Board of Trustees.

Kent State University has been educating students in Geneva for more than 30 years. Continuing this rich tradition, Kent State, in partnership with Webster University, offers this exciting summer program in the heart of Geneva, Switzerland. Participants will experience an enriching academic and cultural setting for the 7-week summer program, as well as have the opportunity for independent travel around Europe.
Program Requirements:
- Full-time degree-seeking university student
- Undergraduate Students - 2.5 cumulative GPA (3.3 cumulative GPA required for Internship Program)
- Undergraduate Students - Earned a minimum of 15.0 credit hours
- Graduate Students - 3.0 cumulative GPA
- Graduate Students - Earned a minimum of 6.0 credit hours.
An admissions decision will only be made once your application is complete and reviewed by both Kent State University and Webster University.

COURSE AND CREDITS
ESCI 41092 (undergraduate) and 51092 (graduate) carry six semester hours of credit. This course is required for all B.S. candidates in the Department of Earth Sciences and for entering graduates students who have not completed a Field Camp requirement as part of their undergraduate study.
PREREQUISITES
Earth Materials I (or Mineralogy), Earth Materials II (or Petrology), and Structural Geology
SUGGESTED BACKGROUND COURSES
Students would also benefit from classes in Paleontology, and Geomorphology, although these are not required.
Kupita/Transiciones (Undergraduate Students)Kupita/Transiciones (K/T) is a free program that includes a cultural orientation, transition experience, and year-long mentoring program for newly admitted and transfers African American, Latinx, Hispanic, Native American, and Multiracial students in mind. Spanning over the academic year, students will engage in activities to learn how to successfully navigate their college career by focusing on the cultural and social climate of Kent State University. All students are welcome to join.
As a result of participating in the Kupita/Transiciones (K/T) program, we hope students:
- Feel more connected to Kent State University
- Establish their Kent State University Familia
- Are affirmed in their cultural Identity
- Gain an appreciation for different cultures
- Identify opportunities for engagement at Kent State University
After students participate in the cultural orientation and transition experience, students will continue into the K/T Mentoring Program. The K/T Mentoring Program offers students an opportunity to have their mentor from K/T provide continued assistance, guidance, and support throughout their entire freshman year.

The Senior Guest Program at Kent State University allows Ohio residents aged 60 years and older to attend regular university on-campus classes tuition-free on a space-available basis.

Cost: Senior Guests are responsible for the payment of special course fees covering materials and supplies as well as the $15 per credit hour distance learning fee assessed for all online courses.

Porthouse Theatre, Kent State University’s summer professional theatre located on the grounds of Blossom Music Center, will host its annual Porthouse Theatre College Academy during the summer of 2023.
The Academy is ideal for performance students looking to jump start their college career and further develop their musical theatre skills. Students who enroll elect to receive 3 or 6 credit hours toward their BA Theatre Studies or BFA Musical Theatre degree.

Kent State Recreational Services Youth Programming (All Ages)
The Department of Recreational Services is proud to offer a variety of youth programming for Future Flashes of all ages! Our signature program, PEAK Summer Camp, features nine weeks of summer fun for kids ages 6 to 15. Learn to Skate/Learn to Play Hockey and Learn to Swim lessons are offered year-round. We also offer a youth swim team, Golden Splashes, for more advanced swimmers. Recreational Services provides a great way for kids to earn physical activity credit with our Home School Gym and Swim program. Additional programs throughout the year include fitness classes, sport prep clinics, and more! Check back often for new program offerings and information about special events for kids and families.

Camp Read-A-Lot will not be held during the summer of 2022, and with the changes in the college-level portion of our program, there are no openings for school-age children to be tutored.
We encourage you to review our Online Resources for Parents webpage and also your local library’s website for summer literacy activities.The Kent State University (KSU) Summer Clinical Practicum in Corrective Reading intervention program, aka Camp Read-A-Lot, has a strong record of improving student achievement in literacy while also assisting graduate students (already certified teachers) in strengthening and refining their instructional practices in the language arts. The program begins with an assessment of each child's literacy strengths and needs. At the conclusion of the program, the teachers write a letter to share pre- and post-assessment results and to provide specific recommendations for home and school.

FACILITIES
Accommodations are in a dormitory at the Black Hills State University, Spearfish, South Dakota. Meals are provided through the college Monday through Saturday lunch and these board expenses are covered in the general charge listed below. Other meals are the responsibility of the students. Students also provide their own bedding and towels. During the traveling portion of the session, students are responsible for their own food costs.
INSTRUCTORS
The staff consists of senior faculty and experienced instructors at a staff-to-student ratio of about 1 to 10.

Wick Juniors Writing Club began offering a summer camp in 2016. This camp is offered in partnership with the Conservancy for Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Students entering grades 3 through 12 will experience one day with the Wick Poetry Center teachers at Kent State University, followed by a three-night, four-day stay at the Environmental Education Center (EEC) in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park.
Through guided hikes, pond dips, and more, the young writers will explore how the natural world influences our writing. A culminating reading will be held on the grounds of the CVNP.
Trained Wick Poetry Center teaching artists and the CVNP Environmental Education Center teachers will facilitate the camp activities.

Kupita/Transiciones (Undergraduate Students)Kupita/Transiciones (K/T) is a free program that includes a cultural orientation, transition experience, and year-long mentoring program for newly admitted and transfers African American, Latinx, Hispanic, Native American, and Multiracial students in mind. Spanning over the academic year, students will engage in activities to learn how to successfully navigate their college career by focusing on the cultural and social climate of Kent State University. All students are welcome to join.
As a result of participating in the Kupita/Transiciones (K/T) program, we hope students:
- Feel more connected to Kent State University
- Establish their Kent State University Familia
- Are affirmed in their cultural Identity
- Gain an appreciation for different cultures

Kent State Recreational Services Youth Programming (All Ages)
The Department of Recreational Services is proud to offer a variety of youth programming for Future Flashes of all ages! Our signature program, PEAK Summer Camp, features nine weeks of summer fun for kids ages 6 to 15. Learn to Skate/Learn to Play Hockey and Learn to Swim lessons are offered year-round. We also offer a youth swim team, Golden Splashes, for more advanced swimmers. Recreational Services provides a great way for kids to earn physical activity credit with our Home School Gym and Swim program. Camp Read-A-Lot will not be held during the summer of 2022, and with the changes in the college-level portion of our program, there are no openings for school-age children to be tutored.
We encourage you to review our Online Resources for Parents webpage and also your local library’s website for summer literacy activities.The Kent State University (KSU) Summer Clinical Practicum in Corrective Reading intervention program, aka Camp Read-A-Lot, has a strong record of improving student achievement in literacy while also assisting graduate students (already certified teachers) in strengthening and refining their instructional practices in the language arts. The program begins with an assessment of each child's literacy strengths and needs. At the conclusion of the program, the teachers write a letter to share pre- and post-assessment results and to provide specific recommendations for home and school.

FACILITIES
Accommodations are in a dormitory at the Black Hills State University, Spearfish, South Dakota. Meals are provided through the college Monday through Saturday lunch and these board expenses are covered in the general charge listed below. Other meals are the responsibility of the students. Students also provide their own bedding and towels. During the traveling portion of the session, students are responsible for their own food costs.

The Kent State University (KSU) Summer Clinical Practicum in Corrective Reading intervention program, aka Camp Read-A-Lot, has a strong record of improving student achievement in literacy while also assisting graduate students (already certified teachers) in strengthening and refining their instructional practices in the language arts. The program begins with an assessment of each child's literacy strengths and needs. At the conclusion of the program, the teachers write a letter to share pre-and post-assessment results and to provide specific recommendations for home and school.

From the Kent State College of Aeronautics and Engineering, campers experience aerospace engineering and mechatronics, the integration of mechanical, electrical, computer, and systems engineering, on the Kent State University campus in this multi-disciplinary, week-long day camp. Campers will also take part in fun and challenging engineering projects and activities, such as flying mini-drones and launching a rocket. Campers will explore career opportunities during site visits to two well-known companies.

The Department of Recreational Services is proud to offer a variety of youth programming for Future Flashes of all ages! Our signature program, PEAK Summer Camp, features nine weeks of summer fun for kids ages 6 to 15. Learn to Skate/Learn to Play Hockey and Learn to Swim lessons are offered year-round. We also offer a youth swim team, Golden Splashes, for more advanced swimmers. Recreational Services provides a great way for kids to earn physical activity credit with our Home School Gym and Swim program. Additional programs throughout the year include fitness classes, sport prep clinics, and more! Check back often for new program offerings and information about special events for kids and families.

Kent State Intercollegiate Athletics Sports Camps provide opportunities for athletes of all ages to develop their skills in a fun, sportsmanlike environment. In addition to fundamental instruction, campers will be exposed to sport-specific strategies and will have the chance to meet new people. Sports include baseball, cheerleading, field hockey, football, golf, gymnastics, lacrosse, baseball, soccer, softball, track, volleyball, wrestling, and more.

Wick Juniors Writing Camp

Registration fee: $325
The registration fee covers all expenses, including meals and lodging during the days spent at the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Additionally, the young writers will receive a t-shirt, notebook, and pencils.

Wick Juniors Writing Club began offering a summer camp in 2016. This camp is offered in partnership with the Conservancy for Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Students entering grades 3 through 12 will experience one day with the Wick Poetry Center teachers at Kent State University, followed by a three-night, four-day stay at the Environmental Education Center (EEC) in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park.
Through guided hikes, pond dips, and more, the young writers will explore how the natural world influences our writing. A culminating reading will be held on the grounds of the CVNP.
Trained Wick Poetry Center teaching artists and the CVNP Environmental Education Center teachers will facilitate the camp activities.
