Biography

Karisa Butler-Wall, PhD, is an assistant professor in the School of Media and Journalism. She teaches courses in gender and communication, film studies, and critical media studies.

Butler-Wall’s research and teaching interests focus on intersections of gender, sexuality, and disability in media and popular culture. Her scholarship explores the role of film, television, video, and digital media in shaping social and cultural norms, particularly in relationship to health and embodiment.

Her work has been published in Women’s Studies Quarterly, Disability Studies Quarterly, Routledge History of American Sexuality, and Out History.
