Communication Studies students, Kaitlyn Fridley, Erica Torre, Kyle Jones, Mary Betz and Victoria Humphreys make up the team of Lambda Pi Eta officers for the 2013-2014 school year.
Lambda Pi Eta is the National Communication Association's official honor society at four-year colleges and universities. Dr. Rozell Duncan, the faculty advisor for Lambda Pi Eta, recognizes the honor and importance of leadership in this organization.
"Lambda Pi Eta honors students who have reached outstanding levels of success in their academic career, and we notice the discipline and effort they put into the area of communication," Duncan said. "We are proud to have these ambitious individuals lead this honor society."
Fridley, president, is a senior majoring in organizational communication with a minor in political science. After graduating in May, she plans to go to graduate school to pursue a master's degree in higher education and student affairs then seek employment at a large university working in residence life.
Torre, vice president, is a senior organizational communication major with a minor in public communication. After graduating, she plans to become an organizational consultant and help businesses function more effectively and market themselves more productively.
Jones, secretary, is a senior public communication major with a minor in interpersonal communication. After graduation, he plans to become a deputy registrar for the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles. He would like to use his public relations and communication skills to fulfill his desire to be a small business owner.
Betz, treasurer, is a senior global communication major with a minor in Chinese. She has also received her Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) certificate. After graduation, she plans to go to graduate school for Teaching English as a Second Language and eventually teach international students at the university level.
Humphreys, public relations chair, is a senior majoring in applied and organizational communication with a minor in public relations. After graduation, she plans to go to law school to get her juris doctor (J.D.) and a master's degree in American Indian studies. Beginning in January, she will complete an internship in Washington, D.C. with the Office of the Secretary of State. In the future, she hopes to work on behalf of Native American veterans living on the reservations.
To be invited to join Lambda Pi Eta, students must have a 3.0 cumulative GPA with 60 credit hours completed. They must also have a 3.25 GPA for Communication Studies courses with 12 credit hours completed. Inductees will be honored on April 9, 2014, in conjunction with the Communication Studies Honors Reception.
