Communication Studies Major Hannah Firsdon Nominated for Homecoming court

Hannah Firsdon for Homecoming Court

Hannah Firsdon, a senior public communication major graduating in May, was recently nominated for the 2015 Homecoming court. Nominees for Homecoming court are students who have been sponsored by a campus organization for the honor of representing Kent State University during the Flashes football game against the Miami University Redhawks on Oct. 3.

To Firsdon, the honor means everything because she is able to positively represent Kent State University and CCI. Firsdon has witnessed past Homecomings, which have made her love for Kent State continuously grow. She is excited to be on Homecoming Court because she is not only able to represent Kent State University and the College of Communication and Information but also display her pride and love for Kent State.

The Homecoming event she is most looking forward to is “Kiss on the K” because she likes seeing students past and present return for the tradition of sharing a moment with their significant others at Risman Plaza.

Firsdon attributes her selection for Homecoming court to her high involvement in extracurricular activities. She is the director of community services for the National Residence Hall Honorary and she is also the director of leadership development for Kent Interhall Council. She is particularly excited about her participation in a new organization on campus, I’m That KSU Girl, which Firsdon says “empowers women to be the best they can be, have positive attitudes and not let gender stereotypes hold you back.”

Firsdon says that her classes have helped her significantly in obtaining a spot in Homecoming court. She says that until she started her communication studies classes, she was really shy. Now that Firsdon is a senior in the program, she has grown in confidence and learned how to portray herself and how to display enthusiasm.

Firsdon will keep the momentum of her successes going throughout her final year by staying as passionate as she can be in the organizations in which she is involved.
