The Kent State University School of Communication Studies welcomes Rachel Gill and Alexa Thomas to the public relations and marketing team. Both students join the team as PR/Marketing assistants to the school.
Gill is a senior public relations major with a marketing minor and is looking forward to graduating this May.
“I’m excited to plan special events for the school and gain more insight into the world of marketing and communications as a whole,” Gill said. “I have never planned an entire event from start to finish, so I feel that will be a very rewarding experience."
Gill has previously worked as a marketing intern for Step2, the largest manufacturer of children’s toys in the United States; a public relations intern for Fahlgren Mortine, an integrated marketing and communications agency in Cleveland; and a public relations intern for Flash Communications, the student run PR-agency for Kent State.
During her junior year, she served as Public Relations Student Society of America’s (PRSSA) vice president of fundraising and raised over $3,000 for the chapter during the annual homecoming silent auction. She was also selected as one of ten students to compete in PRSSA’s National Bateman Competition.
Gill plans to move back to the Cleveland area after graduation to work in public relations and marketing at an agency setting.
Thomas is a senior applied communication major with minors in public relations and global communication and graduates in December.
“I hope to learn more about event planning, marketing and public relations in the workplace,” Thomas said. “I want to be able to take what I’ve learned in my classes and translate it to the real world.”
Thomas currently works as an office manager for a chiropractor and is a coach for the Cuyahoga Falls High School majorettes team. She was an online social media intern for College Lifestyles Magazine last semester and is a member of PRSSA and the undergraduate student government street team.
After graduation, Thomas plans to move to New York City and work in corporate public relations.
Both students will be mainly working on writing new releases and articles, designing and producing marketing materials, managing social media and planning special events for the school this semester.
“I am so excited to have Rachel and Alexa as part of my marketing and public relations team this semester,” Lindsay Kuntzman, marketing and PR communication specialist for communication studies, said. “They both bring a lot of experience and enthusiasm to the team which will make for a great spring semester.”
